77.  Entertainment. (L.P). Gang of Four. 1979.
Vox magazine said...
'Entertainment' was a bewilderingly important catalyst for the British music business, giving birth to post-punk and inventing funk-punk. 'Entertainment' screams power, dance and politics. Writers went overboard, while G of 4 careered through 'Guns Before Butter', 'At Home He's A Tourist' and 'Damaged Goods', which sounded like the wrath of Stalin embossed in steel. No guitarist had ever sounded so hard and brittle as Andy Gill, no band had fitted angular rhythmic patterns against each other, left holes in the sound where they should be none and sung about sex without love like this before. With tongues in cheeks and rubbers in pocket the G of 4 refused to compromise on lyrics for Top Of THe Pops and were denied access.
They were the greatest cult band of the 80s and 'Entertainment' is a thrilling debut album that easily stands the test of time. (Vox. 1991)
