Considered by many to be the first punk single proper. The Damned were certainly the first of the punk bands to be televised, on kid's TV show Mike Mansfield's 'Supersonic'. The first punk band to tour (as support to Marc Bolan) and the first punk band to make the chart (with second single 'Neat, Neat, Neat'). They failed to sell in big numbers and the band were soon superseded by their peers, The Stranglers, The Clash and The Sex Pistols.
The band soon broke up and bass player Captain Sensible even had a #1 record with his version of 'Happy Talk'. A later line up of the Damned led by vocalist Dave Vanian also made the chart with his version of 'Eloise'. The Damned still do the odd gig, re-grouping whenever the cheque is big enough to entice them from their respective pastimes.
