73.  Low. (L.P) David Bowie. 1977.
'Low' finds Bowie making the final break from the character of Ziggy Stardust and looking towards the future. The cover of the album shows Bowie in the guise of Thomas Jerome Newton, the alien character he plays in Nicholas Roeg's film 'The Man Who Fell To Earth'. The image is a fitting one as the music of 'Low' is quite alien to what we might have expected from Bowie at the time.
Utilising the talents of electro pioneer Brian Eno, 'Low' finds Bowie in sombre mood. Much of the album is instrumental, echoing the Teutonic sounds of Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk and NEU! Bowie had de-camped to Berlin and the record mirrors Bowie's alienation and alleged drug dependency. 'Low' finds Bowie in the gutter but looking at the stars.
