74.  Marquee Moon. (L.P). Television. 1977.
Just when the punk art form had been established, shorter songs, out of tune guitars, yelled vocals etc, along comes Television. Television could play, Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd traded guitar licks like a new age Allman Brothers. The songs were longer, 6 mins plus and the recording was crystal clear. 'Marquee Moon' was post-punk before punk had even begun proper.
Television filled the void that was once the station of The Velvet Underground, and like the Velvets, Television had a hard New York attitude. Fitting that Television are today what the Velvet Underground were to the 70s and 80s, an influence but not widely recognised.
